Arts & Sciences

As the oldest and largest unit on campus, the College of Arts & Sciences forms the academic core of the Carolina experience. More than 75 percent of Carolina students will graduate with at least one major from the College. Dedicated to building an environment for faculty and staff to think, communicate, collaborate and create, the College inspires thousands of students to lead meaningful lives.

As Carolina celebrates its 225th anniversary this year, we’ll spotlight the ways the University is preparing our students to thrive in a dynamic society and how it is opening the doors for great minds to make transformative discoveries. Throughout the year, we’ll profile academic units, hear from deans and learn about programs that set Carolina apart from other universities.

Reimagining the Arts & Sciences

    The Southern Oral History Program launched a major research initiative to collect oral histories in rural North Carolina communities to inform health care research, practice and policy.

    World-class instructors in the College of Arts & Sciences’ music department started the UNC Community Music School to serve students of all ages and offer group and individual classes in piano, voice, guitar, composition and early childhood music.
