Scenes from the spring semester

The start of the spring semester brings many Carolina traditions, including FDOC, basketball games and, on occasion, a snow day. University photographers Johnny Andrews and Jon Gardiner were there for it all.

In a matchup of ranked teams, the Carolina women’s basketball team beat Duke 53-46 in overtime at Carmichael Arena on Jan. 9. The Tar Heels are 27-7 and will begin NCAA Tournament play this week.

Days into the semester, campus saw the first of what would be three snow events across the next several weeks.

For nearly 60 years, the School of Government has hosted bipartisan orientation and training for new members of the state legislature. Here, Rep. Dante Pittman — a Carolina alum — and Rep. Paul Scott chat before one of the sessions.

The annual MLK Jr. Lecture and Awards Ceremony was held Jan. 30 after snow postponed the initial date. Cheryl Brown Henderson, a daughter of the lead plaintiff in the Brown v. Board of Education case, delivered the keynote. In this photo, Tray Good and Kristen Marion sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

The Office of Human Resources held its annual Total WellBeing Expo on March 12. Carolina employees had the chance to jump rope, hang out with Rameses and learn about wellness resources.
