The Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and UNC Health worked with Chatham County and N.C. State Extension partners to create a one-stop food hub at Bray Park in Siler City, which includes free meals and non-perishable foods for low-income customers.
The Carolina Hunger Initiative generates its own funding and works to secure financial support from corporations, individuals and government grants for existing and new projects — to help all North Carolinians sustainably access healthy meals.
Funded by a $1 million grant from the North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation, the new initiative will provide science engagement, outreach and communication training for students, staff and faculty at community colleges across the state.
