A message from the chancellor: Changes in Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance offices

Chancellor Lee H. Roberts wrote in a campus email that Human Resources will now be a part of the Division of Finance and Operations and Equal Opportunity and Compliance will move to the Office of University Counsel.

Dear Carolina Community,

The University is facing budgetary uncertainty at both federal and state levels. We have assessed various financial scenarios, and we must take steps to prepare for potential budget constraints. Though much remains unclear, careful fiscal stewardship requires that we implement strategic plans now to maintain our core academic, research and public service mission while ensuring our long-term financial sustainability.

As a part of these plans, we are making organizational changes to our Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance offices. Human Resources will now be a part of the Division of Finance and Operations. Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources and Academic Personnel Linc Butler will report to Vice Chancellor Nate Knuffman. The Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office, led by Associate Vice Chancellor Elizabeth Hall, will move to the Office of University Counsel.

As part of this restructuring, the vice chancellor for Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance role will be eliminated, and Becci Menghini will leave the University.

During her 10-year tenure, Becci has made invaluable contributions to our University, and she will be missed. Becci began at Carolina as the senior associate vice chancellor in what was then the division for Workforce Strategy, Equity and Engagement, and for the last six years has served as vice chancellor. Her work to lead University personnel through the COVID-19 pandemic, build and implement a hybrid work system, improve hiring times and processes for faculty and staff, and expand the infrastructure for EOC to respond better to complaints of discrimination and harassment are just a few of her contributions to Carolina. She has been a tireless advocate for our students and employees and leaves a team well prepared to maintain this important work.

Becci will be an integral part of transitioning the Human Resources and EOC teams to other areas, and I appreciate her assistance with this effort. Please join me in thanking Becci for her service and wishing her well as she steps away from Carolina.
