Alert Carolina sirens test postponed to March 6

No action is required during the semiannual test conducted by the University.

Due to the possibility of severe weather in Orange County and across Central North Carolina, the University is postponing the Alert Carolina test until Thursday, March 6 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. During the system test, NO ACTION is required.​

​​If further changes to the timing of the test are required, the University will communicate any changes no later than 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 6 via Alert Carolina.

​We test the Outdoor Emergency Sirens and messaging systems regularly throughout the year to make sure the equipment and notification processes work as planned, and to educate our community on what to do in the event of an emergency.

​During the test, anyone outside on or near campus will hear the sirens. The sirens are not designed to be heard inside a building or vehicle. The sirens will sound an alert tone along with a brief prerecorded voice message. ​

​​Most Alert Carolina Informational messages are sent to notify the campus community of situations that do not pose an immediate threat but may be of significant interest to campus.

The University will also send a text message to cell phone users who registered their numbersin the online Alert Carolina contact information page available through the Onyen services website. The University will post safety-related announcements on the Alert Carolina website, alertcarolina.unc.edu, along with updates.
